| | The Bronx - The Bronx | ] | Ten years ago this week I got a really cool scar on my leg. The fact that a life-changing or memorable event in my life happened ten years ago sounds really strange. A lot has changed in my life since then, as one would expect, and thinking back about all of the things I've done over the past ten years is kind of cool. I thought about writing a very descriptive recollection of the event, in fact I had a few paragraphs written, because I will never forget every minor detail of that day, but then I realized that I'm still not comfortable talking about it. So maybe in five years, when I've had this scar for over half of my life I will be ready to open up about it. One thing that I will share is that I had hoped that some of the pain and discomfort that I have in my leg would have gone away, but I suppose it's just something I'm going to have to live with.

| | Matt and Kim - Grand | ] | This is a personals ad I saw on Craigslist:
Looking for a woman with evil appetites. We will have nasty, evil, sweaty, probably illegal sexual encounters in order to bring about the rise of Lucifer. (ie Satan) Must be willing to do all styles of sexual positions, except Missionary. That is the Lord's Way, and we will have none of that. Besides, if we do it Missionary, Satan gets angry and a kitten dies. I like kittens.
Must be into anal. For that is Satan's Alley. Must like blow jobs (Swallowing Lucifer's Gravy) and Hand Jobs (Milking the Evil Goat) Must be into slight S&M (Safe word: Pink Sock) Must be into erotic and evil costumes and lingerie. Leather Thongs, spikes, boots, black and evil bras that accentuate your bosom, Boba Fett costumes. Must be willing to deep throat. (So that my satanic appendage will be closer to your black soul) Must be into strap-ons so that I may feel the "Power of Beezlebub" coursing thru my lower intestines.
The perfect encounter will be this:
Meeting you at one of our local eatery's. Plying you with ample alcoholic libations. Enjoying a nice piece of animal flesh. Tipping the waiter only 10% instead of 15 to 20% (Because we are EVIL!) Taking you back to my lair. Removing your Gothic Garb, laying you roughly upon my "Sacrifice Altar" (Twin size futon), and promptly begin to nibble on your Satanic Slit. (Please shave before the ritual, as it's hard to be evil when you got pubes stuck in your fillings) Whence you are all moist with the Power of The Dark Lord's Juices, I will remove my cape and trousers and proceed to fill you with the Sceptre of His Infernal Majesty. You will writhe in pleasure so deep, it will call forth the Evil One himself! After 4 to 7 minutes of the most intense sexual experience of your God Fearing life, we will perform a Satanic Snuggle, until you gently fall asleep in my powerful arms.
If this taps into the Primordial Jelly you have buried deep down in your Dark Soul, then contact me and we will make beautiful, agonizing "love" together. We will combine our desires and perform rituals so evil, it will awaken the Evil Ancient One from His Firey Nap! He will spill forth from the Bowels of Hell like so much premature Satanic Ejaculate!!
Hails to the Evil One!!

| | American Football - American Football | ] | Update from Fort Collins:
We've been here a full three weeks now and things are going well. It hasn't really set in yet that I'm in Colorado. It might be because I've lived in six different places in the past six years. So I'm used to moving around. All of those, of course, were very minor moves by comparison.
Joe Moose at work: I've worked two full weeks now and I like it so far. The first week I basically sat at my desk and tried to look busy while random people would give me miscellaneous tasks to do. Everyone made it a point to come and introduce themselves to me, which was very much appreciated. That kind of thing would not have happened in Wooster. Usually people would wait and see if you were cool enough to talk to before saying hi to anyone. But here, it seems that no one really gives a fuck. They just want to hang out and have a good time and they want everyone to feel included. I was also invited to a party two weekends ago, which I attended. Again everyone is super accommodating and friendly. Everyone introduces themselves, again, and they kept offering me food and drinks and trying to get me involved in the various party activities. I've got to say that all of this is really great, especially when you don't know anyone except those you rode into town with. So quick recap: Work = good. People at work = very good! Moving on...
Joe Moose at home: The city is super cool. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from. You could probably go a full year without eating at the same place twice. There is also a ton of outdoorsy type things to do. I'm still trying to get a bike so I can take advantage of all the bike trails that meander throughout the city and so I can ride my bike to work. There's a lot of open spaces/ natural areas to visit and hike/ mountain bike. My favorite so far is Horsetooth Mountain Park. I've been there twice now and I've hiked the Horsetooth Falls trail with Kirs, Dane, Dave and Stacy and the Horsetooth Rock trail with just Kirs. The Horsetooth Rock trail is a real ass kicker, but the views are well worth all efforts. The trail goes up to about 7,000 feet and you can see for miles. We even saw a plain fly by and it was lower than us. Ask Kirs to post all the pictures of the amazing view. So like I said, I've been there twice and there are still plenty more trails to hike. So quick recap: Downtown Fort Collins = good. Nature = very good! Moving on...
Joe Moose the man: Being in such a friendly city (almost as friendly as Friendlianapolis) I've noticed that I'm becoming less bitter. I know it's hard to believe, but when everyone else around you is super nice it starts to rub off. No big changes yet of course, but I'm making efforts. I'm also more excited to do things. Before I would come home and sit and watch TV until bed then go to sleep and get up and go to work. I still do that on some days, but for the most part I just want to be outside. I've also gotten really into racquetball. It's fun and makes for a decent replacement for softball. Anyone who has known me for the past oh... I 'unno, like eight years or so knows that I have sideburns. I was even told once, "Hey nice burns man!" Well, those are gone. I've replaced them with a full mountain beard. It's not quite a Casey Blake beard, but people no longer look at me and think, "Man that guy hasn't shaved in awhile." Instead they think, "Hey that guy has a beard." We'll see how I like it. Who knows, I may keep it for eight years. So quick recap: Activity level = good. Facial hair = very good!

| | Ryan's Hope - Chaos EP | ] | Last Friday I attended the Kent State BFA Crafts Show. I went there with certain preconceptions and bias towards Hanz's artistic abilities. There were 8 students showing their work and Hanz had an entire wall devoted to just his work. He had two projectors set up (which no one else had) to show sort of a step by step (day by day) process of how certain pieces were created. That definitely gave him an advantage. Being able to see how things were down and understand somewhat the ideas behind things helps you appreciate the work more. And we all know that sometimes there is no way to know what he is thinking. His stuff was bad ass and better than I expected. There was another person who made these crazy looking plates that were sweet too, but other than that I was underwhelmed. The show also gave me a chance to see some of Hanz's family that I had not seen in a long time and it was good to see that everyone was doing well. Hanz said that he would give me some art to take with me to Colorado and hang up, so I'm excited about that.
I'm not going to elaborate on a topic (softball) that apparently only Dane cares about, especially since he knows more about the subject than I do. Unless of course, Dane, there is a certain situation that you would like my opinion or perspective on.
Instead, here are some Simpsons quotes:
"It's already wiped out the Dodo, the Cuckoo, and the Ne-Ne, and it has nasty plans for the Booby, the Titmouse, the Woodcock, and the Titpecker."
"Lachrymose is to dyspeptic as ebullient is to...effervescent!"
Bart: [sees Homer's homemade bat] Wow! How many home runs you gonna hit with that? Homer: Let's see. We play thirty games. Ten at-bats a game. Mmm... Three thousand.
"... all of the players have retired, and are long dead. In fact, your right fielder has been dead for 130 years.''

| | Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me | ] | As I've grown older I've come to the painful realization that my parents are not going to live forever. Everyone starts to notice little things about their parents that make them seem, well, crazy. They start looking old, talking old, acting old and aside from wearing polyester pants and suspenders they are, in fact, old. There's no hiding it anymore. This all became blatantly clear last week when my dad was hospitalized after having a mild stroke. I really wasn't sure what to think or how to react to it all. When he had a heart attack about a year and half ago I thought maybe that it was an isolated event. But this was all too real. In the back of my mind I always new that these types of things were bound to happen, I guess I just wasn't expecting them to happen so soon. I'm not ready for it yet and I've been thinking a lot about it this past week.
Occasionally people forget the words to things and they try their best to remember by filling in what they think it should be. Sometimes the result can be really funny.

| | Propagandhi - Supporting Caste | ] | Baseball season is approaching fast and this year I'm in two fantasy baseball leagues. I'm psyched! I don't want to blow my strategy, but I'm probably going to pick Edward Mujica first and then take Roger Clemens or Barry Bonds. Also, I'm way excited for the hockey playoffs.
Supporting Caste
1. I was excited when I ordered it. 2. I was very excited when I received it in the mail. 3. I was very excited and very satisfied after listening to it.
I've listened to it about 8 times all the way through since this morning (seriously) and I've decided that it's great! My favorite songs are (1) Night Letters, (2) Supporting Caste, (4) Dear Coach's Corner, (10) Incalculable Effects, and (11) The Banger's Embrace.
I heard this a couple of months ago and I wanted to post about it, but I kept forgetting. I heard rumors of a law that is close to getting passed in some Cleveland suburbs that would restrict the time a police officer is allowed to let his/her car idle to 5 minutes. I hope the rumors are true. The fact that any would leave their car running all day long is simply ridiculous. |

| | Dtangy snoring | ] | This guy I sit next to at work is a pretty typical guy and like most guys he knows a lot about sports. Well, as I would find out, all sports except baseball. Today he asked me what team Barry Bonds plays for and I told him that he doesn't play for any team. He asked me why and I said that he's pretty old and he could only really serve a team as their DH. He didn't really accept that answer stating that there had to be a team out there that needed a DH and then he started naming teams. He named the Reds and the Pirates and I told him that those were National League teams and that they didn't have a DH. He said that if they didn't have a DH then why wouldn't they want him. I explained that National League teams didn't use the DH and that the pitcher batted. It was as if I had just told him that they sky was orange or that chicks did in fact pee out of their butts. He couldn't contemplate why a team would have the pitcher bat when they had a player 10x more capable sitting on the bench. Another guy, Bill (who works for MLB as an umpire evaluator), and I explained that some people believe that the National League plays a more pure form of baseball. He asked why a team would purposely put itself at a disadvantage and how the National League could even compete with the American League. He went on to say that nobody wants to see a pitcher bat. I said that he was starting to sound a lot like the late Charles O. Finley, who was one of the first proponents of the DH. And in fact, when I came home this evening I looked it up and Charlie O. had in fact said this, "The average fan comes to the park to see action, home runs. He doesn't come to see a one-, two-, three- or four-hit game. I can't think of anything more boring than to see a pitcher come up, when the average pitcher can't hit my grandmother. Let's have a permanent pinch-hitter for the pitcher." Bill and I were amazed at how little this guy actually knew about baseball. We just sat back and laughed as this guy made analogy after hilarious analogy. He said that having a pitcher bat was like have a the center on a basketball team shoot all of their teams' free throws or like having the coach play goalie in a shoot out. It was hysterical. And I couldn't really argue with anything the guy was saying, because most of it was true. I simply stated the rules of the game and left it at that. If that weren't enough, he had one more rather brilliant question to ask. He asked, "If the Yankees spend so much money every year, why don't they win more games?" I just smiled and said, "That's a really good question."

| | Kate Nash - Made of Bricks | ] | The Indians are in the market for a closer. The have made it priority number one.
I have taken into consideration contracts, age, injury and performance and here's who I would like to see:
1. Huston Street - He's only 25 and has an ERA of 2.88 with a 3.47 K/BB. He gives up .78 hits per inning. Also, Colorado has a potential replacement closer in Manny Corpas. 2. Matt Capps - Also 25, he has an ERA of 3.06 with a 4.91 K/BB. The Indians have always had good relations with the Pirates, so a trade would not be difficult. 3. Jose Valverde - 30 years old, with stats just below that of Street and Capps. 4. Kerry Wood - He had an amazing year last season, but he is extremely injury prone and it's rumored that he would want a long contract. 5. Jenny Lewis - He's 25 and his numbers last year were less than desirable for a closer, but he did have a save percentage of 93%.
All that is just wishful thinking I suppose. Here's what I really think will happen. Rodriguez and Fuentes are going to want way too much money and Putz and Sherrill won't be pulled from their teams cheaply either. Plus I've never been a fan of left handed closers, which Fuentes and Sherrill are. The Indians have always been weary of parting ways with prospects. So I think they're going to give Hoffman a two year deal and let him mentor Lewis until he is ready to take over the role. Honestly, I don't have a problem with that. Hoffman is 41, and his Hall of Fame performance speaks for itself. It would be a huge step up from what we are used to. Meaning this:
Joe Borowski - 80% save percentage, nearly 1 hit per inning, ERA of 4.18 and a K/BB ratio of 2.1 Bob Wickman - 86% save percentage, nearly 1 hit per inning, ERA of 3.57 and K/BB ratio of 1.81
I don't know about any of you, but I never what to see performances like this ever again.
Did I miss anything?

| | OnGuard - This Has It's Price and That Price Has Been Paid | ] | Halloween was kind of disappointing this year. Not that many good costumes and a lot of non costumes. Justin's friend, Christian, went as Louie XVI. It was a pretty sweet looking costume and it fit him well. Some guy dressed as a bush. Sounds dumb, but when you're standing on the sidewalk and a bush stands up and walks away, you definately do a double take. Zak and I had the same idea for a beard. I have a feeling that we both looked kind of ridiculous. The Noid was the biggest hit by far. Lots of people knew exactly what it was and they all seemed to get a good laugh out of it. Of course, some people (those born post 1989) had no idea what to think. The Noid had this message for everyone, "I'll fuck your pizza up, baby!" Hilarious!
The Indians are rumored to be interested in trading for 3B/ OF Mark Teahen of the Royals. I'm not sure if I like this at all. Teahen's numbers are not all that impressive and I don't think he's that much of an improvement over Peralta or even Carroll at third. Unless they give up very little ( Marte, Sowers, or Gutierrez) I think they should stay put. They are also interested in Brian Roberts from the Orioles. I like this much more. He's a true lead off hitter and second base man. He'll cost more, but I think overall this would be the way to go. Also, the Rockies would like to trade Matt Holliday before the start of the season.
I'm not sure what to think about calling RBI's steaks. I've heard the term before (I did not make this up) and I can't decide whether it's just stupid or if it's really clever. Please help me figure this one out. |
